Effect of Propolis on Experimental Allergic Conjunctivitis in Rats

Background and Aim: The purpose of the present study is to provide a basis for use propolis as therapeutic agent allergic conjunctivitis. Methods: effect eye drops on experimental conjunctivitis in rats was investigated. occurred by sensitization challenge egg albumin number scratching, hyperemia, chemosis, vascular permeability histamine content conjunctival tissue tears were assayed. Results: Propolis significantly inhibited symptoms including hyperemia chemosis observed compared with control group. Furthermore, this increased induced antigen release from rat conjunctiva correlation decrease tears. Conclusion: efficacy may be attributable antiallergic anti-inflammatory action.
